This Tuesday was the REIC BC Chapter's Summer Breakfast Seminar in beautiful Burnaby BC at the Delta Hotel by Marriott Burnaby Conference Centre. After announcing the newest graduate from the REIC program, BC Chapter president Ellen Hsu welcomed the featured speaker Neil Davie.
Neil Davie is a partner at Norton Rose Fullbright Canada, and former chair of the Vancouver Real Property Section of the BC branch of the Canadian Bar Association, he brings a wealth of commercial real estate knowledge.
Davie gave us a deep-dive into recent changes to the residential tenancy act (RTA) including new updates to the property transfer tax/government transfer tax, vacancy tax and speculation/empty homes tax.
Davie also touched on some things to consider with the legalization of cannabis, and how to make sure your tenant agreements are considerate of all your tenants. Cannabis regulations are similar to smoking although vaping and e-cigarettes seem to be new territory.
The morning wrapped up with some sponsored giveaways, and the draw for $400 which went unclaimed once again meaning it is now up to $450. Which will be given away at the upcoming Signature Event aboard The Magic Charm charter yacht on September 6th.
See you there!
