A Family Business
Vancouver Fire is proud to be a B.C. owned and operated family business. Garth Baxter, through his company Betlyn Industries, acquired Vancouver Fire Prevention in 1977. Until then, the company had focused on fire protection for restaurants and marine vessels. Garth expanded into residential and commercial security, establishing Vancouver Alarm Service Ltd. in 1981.
Five years later, Garth transferred Vancouver Fire Prevention to two of his children, Rob Baxter and Janet Hassell, and long-time employee Randy Garland. Another son, Dan Baxter, joined the company in 1991. The business soon expanded into safety planning, access control and industrial security with more acquisitions. In 1999, Vancouver Fire Prevention took over management of Vancouver Alarm Service and the company was re-named Vancouver Fire and Security.
Today, Rob Baxter and his younger sister, Joslyn Alderson, are active shareholders who manage the company. Vancouver Fire focuses on fire protection services. Our National Fire and Safety Planners division provides safety planning and training, while our security and monitoring business operates as Radius Security.
